Surrey Downlands Project

  

Duration: 9 months 
Placement Host: Surrey CC Downlands Project
Location: South Surrey
Landholding: 350 acres
Main grazing: Chalk grassland, lowland hay meadow, semi-improved, orchards
 
Livestock: 100-150 sheep, 4-8 sussex cattle, 2 dartmoor ponies, 6 british feral goats
 
The Project: The Downlands Project is repsonsible for restoration and maintenance of parts of the Surrey Hills AONB and many small urban fringe sites totalling 7 SSSI's, 5 LNR's and multiple SNCI's. Now in its 20th year the project was a forerunner. They also over winter the livestock belonging to the City of London
 
The Work: The successful candidate would be part of a small team involved in all aspects of animal husbandry. The would also help manage a large group of livestock checkers and be involved in habitat management work. During summer months habitat / species surveying work will be carried out.
