Welcome to the GAP conservation grazing map, a 'grazing gazetteer' providing information on a wide range of conservation grazing schemes around the British Isles. Please click on the Visual Map Tool link on this page to access the map and explore the Grazing Scheme information in our database. Alternatively, you can access a text-based version of the map by clicking the Text Map Tool link instead.
GAP works to promote Local Grazing Schemes as an effective way to achieve conservation through local engagement and partnership working. LGSs are coloured RED on the map. Some of these we have expanded to give more detailed case studies, and these can be identified by the BLUE dots.
However, there are of course other conservation grazing systems in place to meet other needs.
So to paint a representative picture of conservation grazing in the UK, we also include other examples of conservation grazing from across the conservation grazing spectrum; from individual farms meeting nature conservation objectives through grazing to large-scale extensive grazing conservation projects using free-ranging livestock. These sites are represented by YELLOW coloured dots on the Visual Map Tool.
